New Wargame Rules!

MINIATURE WARGAMES
There are many different ancient-era wargame rules available. Each of these rule systems appears in the form of a book purchased separately from the game pieces (soldier models). These wargames appeal to model hobbyists, because unlike a boardgame, it is up to the player to produce the game area and pieces. One must find and paint a miniature army. A simple table top is adequate for game play, but the more creative and industrious players build miniature terrains with trees, hedges, fences, rivers, roads, etc.
FIELD OF GLORY (FOG)
The new hot item in ancient wargaming is Field of Glory. I, myself, do not have a copy, but it receive good reviews, especially in terms of the production value of the rule book itself. Check out the official site for reviews and more info.

WARHAMMER ANCIENT BATTLES (WAB)
WAB is one of the more popular game systems used by ancient era wargammers. The preferred scale is 25/28mm, but is also useable for smaller scales. You may have noticed your local mall has a fantasy wargaming store called Games Workshop. WAB is not directly affiliated with this company, although it is based on Games Workshops popular Warhammer Fantasy rules.
Warhammer Ancient Battles (isbn; 1-872372-53-8) is the book providing the core rules for the game and details for play. It contains only 2 army lists: Roman and Barbarians. Several supplemental books exist to give army lists for other armies and time periods.
WAB This is the official site for the Warhammer Ancient Battles game. Useful for general info and errata (corrections to the printed rules).
WAB List is a message forum for fans of Warhammer Ancient Battles. Members ask and answer questions, give modeling and painting tips, share photos, organize competitions, etc. Most of the members play DBA, so it is a great place to find out more about the game.
Ancient Battles is maintained by Jeff Jonas, an author of one of the WAB supplement books. His site is a great place to find updated information on wargaming with military miniatures and ancient military history. Highlights include Alexander the Great in Warhammer Ancient Battles, Greek Armies, Indian Armies, Macedonians, War Machines and War Elephants.
DE BELLIS ANTIQUITATIS (DBA)
Published by the Wargames Research Group, De Bellis Antiquitatis, is a set of fast-play rules for ancient and medieval wargaming using miniature figures. The rule book includes army lists for nearly 200 historical armies from the period 3000BC to 1485AD that can be used in the game. The 24 page book also includes simple rules for conducting campaigns. Although the rules do allow for larger scale figures, I have found that the vast majority of DBA players use 15mm metals or 1/72 scale (20mm) plastic models. The use of inexpensive plastic soldiers and the limited number of playing pieces makes this a much more affordable rule set.
DBM (or De Belles Multitudenes) is an expansion of DBA, with the addition of troop gradings (diferentiating between elements of the same troop type), mechanisms for handling larger armies, a more detailed system for setting out terrain, and further refined combat factors and outcomes.
Fanaticus.org is THE online resource for DBA.
PIG WARS
This is a fun skirmish game. Unlike the above games, the object of Pig Wars is to fight and pillage a town rather than large-scale battle. The players control small competing bands or raiders who win points based on how much loot they steal from a town. I am not aware of a website, other than the fan site on Yahoo Groups (see below). So, in addition to the typical warriors, you also need to paint up some miniature livestock, treasure and peasants. Gripping Beast and the Foundry are good companies for that. There is also more attention to builidngs and terrain.
Pig Warriors is a message group where miniatures gamers who play Pig Wars rules can share house rules and scenarios and interact on all other aspects related to the game like figure reviews, painting tips, and terrain creation. This group is frequented by the rules creator.
ARMATI
I am not too familiar with this ruleset, but it does have a good following of players.
